Background and Vision
Petri Vesanto founded Novox as a sole proprietorship in 2002. Having spent a long time working for large corporations, Petri had a vision to start his own business. Initially, he operated the company alone, but soon found himself hiring additional staff. Since 2007, Novox has been a limited liability company with its headquarters located in Innopolis, Espoo’s Otaniemi.
Petri himself has been surprised at how consistent the business idea has remained, even though the world around it has changed and the business has grown. While the core business activities are similar to what they were at the beginning, the work itself has evolved significantly. A desire to innovate, grow, and develop is something all Novox employees share.
We are a strong player in the energy production sector, providing our clients with personalized expert services, investment preparation, and engineering services for implementation.
For example, we have worked alongside our clients on projects involving the introduction of new fuels, improving plant energy efficiency, managing unwanted reactions and flue gas purity, and comprehensively improving energy management or plant environmental friendliness.
As the energy world undergoes rapid change, our work is often broader than before. We are involved in developing, reviewing, and optimizing our clients’ energy systems for the future of energy production.

Tarja Vesanto

Tarja has expertise in:

Tarja holds a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Aalto University. Her thesis work took her to Raahe, Northern Finland, and after her studies she worked as a maintenance manager in Sweden, France and Germany.
Tarja eventually ended up in the industrial area of Rotterdam. After 3 years she decided to move to the family business Novox, but to stay in the Netherlands. Tarja not only works on projects for Finnish customers, but also opens doors to the Central European market.

Petri Vesanto

Petri specializes in:

Petri is driven by his constant interest in ‘the new’, the energy sector and the world in general are never finished.
Petri is a Chemical Engineer, for whom the choice for the field was clear at a very young age because of the many types of chemical experiments he did with his friends. His career took him to the chemical industry and to the planning and implementation of production.
Petri moved towards to the energy sector in the 90s, started with customer projects and became an independent entrepreneur in the field in 2002, when Novox was founded.

Anu Hyvönen

Anu’s specialties are:

These issues are important to Anu, because proactive management of environmental issues can ensure ethical business conditions in a changing world.
From a young age, Anu learned a lot about energy production because one of her parents worked in the sector. Anu studied at Aalto University and has a degree in energy economics and environmental law.
“The energy sector interested me because energy plays a socially important role in the functioning of our society. The way energy is produced is of great importance for the environment and climate change.”
Anu has been happy at Novox for a few years now. In her free time, Anu enjoys doing yoga and being in nature, for example kayaking.

Kjell Strandström
M.Sc Chemical Engineering
Kjell’s areas of expertise include:
- Bioethanol processes
- Power plant processes
- Flue gas chemistry and emission reduction
Kjell has been a valued colleague at Novox for many years. He finds it particularly valuable that he can both oversee the big picture of general development in the sector and have a direct influence on the practical implementation of projects at our company. In his previous jobs, he missed this combination of strategic thinking and hands-on work.
His career path to Novox was a mix of interest and chance. During his studies, Kjell was fascinated by combustion chemistry. A summer job at Åbo Akademi led to a thesis on this subject, and subsequently to a permanent position in the sector.
In recent years, Kjell has specialized in the bio- and energy economy. He is proud of his contribution to projects where he sought system solutions, rather than just solutions for individual power plants. The design of district heating systems is a good example of this. In the future, he would like to further integrate the principles of the circular economy into his work.
To counterbalance all the screen time at work, Kjell loves to experiment with new recipes in the kitchen.

Kaisa Nadeau

Kaisa’s areas of expertise:

Kaisa is one of Novox’s newer recruits. She lives in Canada, where she previously worked for the oil and plastics industries. She now works remotely for Novox.
Kaisa holds a Master’s degree in Process Engineering from the University of Oulu. She chose this field because she was interested in mathematics, chemistry and physics, and process engineering seemed like a reasonable option to combine her strengths.
Kaisa became interested in Novox because the company is involved in the development of the energy sector, which is undergoing major changes. Working at Novox allows Kaisa to contribute to solving environmental issues.
In her spare time, Kaisa enjoys exercising in nature.

Rinat Gabitov

Rinat specializes in:

Rinat graduated from the University of Petroleum Technology in Ufa, Russia and holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the oil fields in Russia for a long time, but was interested in working with more future-proof technology. Rinat is always interested in new technologies in the field of energy and mechanics.

Arun Sankaran

Arun’s specialization is:

Arun did his Bachelor of Engineering at SRM Easwari Engineering College in India, program electrical engineering and electronics. During his studies, Arun became interested in sustainable energy technology.
After that, Arun decided to do a university engineering degree in a double degree program from Aalto University and Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan. He studied the Nordic Master in Innovative Sustainable Energy Engineering (ISEE).
In his free time, Arun likes to be with friends and play badminton.

Sanna studied environmental engineering at the University of Tampere. At the moment, Sanna is finishing her diploma thesis in addition to her work on the development of business models and principles for environmental observations. In Sanna’s opinion, it is important for companies to be aware of the environmental impact of their operations and strive to minimize them.
At Novox, Sanna especially appreciates the small and open work environment, where it is easy to bring out your own views and learn from others. In her spare time, she enjoys golf and padel, as well as outdoor activities with her dog.

Yannick Schuurmans

Yannick’s specialty is:

Yannick is originally from the Netherlands but lives in Finland. During his internship he came to support the marketing and communication of Novox by producing material in Dutch.
Yannick also wrote his Bachelor’s thesis in collaboration with Novox, about the sustainability of district heating in the Netherlands. In this way he was able to both deepen his expertise and provide Novox with important information about the situation on the Dutch market.
After the summer internship Yannick was hired by Novox as a part-time employee to strengthen the team for projects on the Dutch market. Yannick is also involved in web development, for example of this website.
In his spare time, Yannick likes to make music.
